Neutralizing Trauma

Welcome!

This website is a collection of what I have learned, and continue to learn, about de-escalating and neutralizing disruptive emotional reactions that have their roots in unresolved childhood trauma.

Neutralizing trauma is just one step in the trauma healing process.

It is a very helpful step for reducing drama, harm, chaos, and cravings.

On my journey, I have found the following things to be true:

  • To neutralize childhood trauma, I do not need to be able to remember the trauma - or even remember my childhood.
    I do remember most of my childhood, but I have met plenty of people, who do not, and they are still able to neutralize (resolve) their unresolved trauma.

  • In the process of neutralizing childhood trauma, I also end up neutralizing generational trauma - personal and collective trauma that has been passed down through generations genetically or behaviorally in my family and in my culture.

  • Having support on this journey is essential.
    I am very self-reliant and can do a lot on my own, but self-reliance only goes so far. It has its limits. Receiving guidance and support from a professional is very helpful and, at times, absolutely necessary. I receive guidance and support from someone who had over 14 years of personal trauma integration experience when we started working together and had mentored many others before me.

  • Those with addictions, physical health conditions, or mental health conditions may need an expert in that condition to provide additional support and guidance on their trauma neutralizing journey.

When an old trauma response has been re-activated, we instantly start reliving the past trauma (usually subconsciously). This can be very de-stabilizing and disrupt a whole day, week or month.

And we can cause emotional, psychological or physical harm to ourselves, others, or our relationships because our nervous systems goes into survival mode, cutting us off from accessing some other parts of the brain.

One very effective way to feel safe again is to quickly (and as gently as possible) uncover the past trauma and neutralize it (resolve it).

However, because of what is going on in our nervous system, it can be extremely difficult to jump straight into the neutralizing process.

That is why the information on this website is presented in a specific order - with each section building on the previous one and supporting the next one:
Trauma => Activation => De-Escalate => Neutralize => Plan/Prevent => Feelings => Needs => Connection.
