Sensation Spot Clean

SENSATIONS

Every sensation is connected to an emotion, which is connected to a story. The story can lead us to the anchor.

We can spot triggers by paying attention to uncomfortable physical sensations in our body.

A sensation spot clean (or spot check) is a bottom-up approach.

It can help us catch our triggers on a daily basis, so they don't pile up.

The faster we get at catching triggers and neutralizing anchors, the better we will be at containing the damage caused by unresolved trauma and preventing it from spreading.

SPOT CLEAN

We can do a sensation spot clean many times throughout the day - any time we notice an uncomfortable sensation in our body or we feel upset.

I like to do a sensation spot clean first thing in the morning, before getting out of bed.

I pause and ask:

  1. What sensation am I feeling in my body right now?

  2. Where is it?

  3. What does it feel like?

  4. Is it heavy or light?

  5. Does it have a texture?

  6. Does it have a color?

  7. Is there an emotion connected to the sensation?

  8. Is there a story connected to the emotion?

  9. What current situation in my life is connected to the story?

  10. I find a handle, if needed, and use a neutralizing technique.

  11. What was the anchor?

  12. What is my New Story?
